Tooth Filing Ceremony

This the second part human being ceremony for Bali Hindu life which is tooth filing . The ceremony held when the child reach adulthood .

Reason for tooth filing ceremony is in order to minimise the sin which is – Anger,Envy,Greed,Arrogance,Drunkness and other sins. This ceremony must do it before the children get married or after the girl get their first period.

Only 6 teeth should be filed for this ceremony which is 2 eye teeth and 4 incisor of the top teeth. this very important ceremony for Balinese life - and they belief if some one don’t do this ceremony when they die this person soul will never in peace.

One month before the ceremony – the family start their ceremony preparation - and when the ceremony come closed the neighbour or other relatives will help for the preparations.

The total person who performance the ceremony must be 2,4,6 people. Can not do 3,5,7 peoples because they believe will bring a bad luck . if the family has 3 children the parents have to get another person from relative to join them.

The ceremony should start from the eldest child ,then last will be youngest child. One day before ceremony held the person cannot go out from the house and all should sleep in secret room . normally they used their parents bedroom as a secret room.

The person who performance tooth filing should dress the same which is most golden yellow and white colour this symbolism of holiness.

When is the big day arrive - the person is not allowed to enter the kitchen area till ceremony is over. Normally ceremony will start in the morning before 12 noon, basically they try to finished up the ceremony before 12 noon.

During the ceremonies the relatives and the parents will standing around the building where the ceremony held to witness the ceremonies. The Only Family is allowed to see the process of the ceremonies. This building call (Bale Dangin ) which mean building in the east which situated close to the family temple.

Balinese music will be performance during the ceremony is called (Gender )only 2 people play this music , this kind of music for this ceremony – for other ceremony the music performance can be more than 10 peoples.

When the tooth filing done by the priest then the person have go to family temple to pray and thanks for the blessing.

In Bali Hindhu they believe in many gods and thousands of god , every single thing in the house have a spirit. For example in daily life – when finished cooking there little offer to every building in the house . because they believe there is god look after the place and offering to the bad spirits too. The reason behind that- to say thank you to the god -and for the bad spirit please don’t disturb us !that why they give small offering to god and the bad spirits too.
